MiltFord.com is all about books, writing, teaching and other ways to look at LGBTQueer life experience: past and present, personal and community, local, national and beyond.
MY BOOKS
Playing It Straight, Gay Men and Heterosexual Marriage
explores many aspects of what a man experiences when he is both gay (or bi) and married to a woman. It puts their gay-straight marriage in the context of their total life experience, up to the time of the interviews.

Philip, A Novel, my new book, takes you inside a young man's struggle between his traditional religious values and his emerging gay self.

Life Journey:
Literature and the Search for Meaning in the Stages of Life
focuses on the sense people make of their lives at each stage. It focuses on the questions we all have concerning who we are, who we love, and what we want to accomplish in our lives. There is clearly room for non-straight experience in the way this books looks at life.

MY TEACHING
For many years, Life Journey was the basis for much of my university teaching, and it provided a smooth transition to my current LGBTQ teaching focus. One current offering is essentially a gay life journey course, called Understanding the Gay Life Cycle, and another is a more traditional Introduction of Lesbian and Gay Studies. In 2011-12, I begin teaching two new courses. Information about those courses will be posted soon.
MY ACADEMIC HOME
My academic home is in the Liberal Studies Department at GVSU, and I also regularly teach courses for The Women and Gender Studies Program.
THE LGBT RESOURCE CENTER
GAY, LESBIAN, BI-SEXUAL, TRASNSGENDER
A major joy in my professional life during the years since my coming out nearly fifteen years ago has been working with LGBT students groups on campus, leading in 2008 to the opening our LGBT Resource Center at Grand Valley State University. I have the privilege of being its Founding Director. In the fall of 2010, the Center got a new Director, Colette Seguin Beighley.
I have launched my blog at blog.miltford.com. Please check it out.
